Taki Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama is located, at the remote part of North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, in proximity to the border area (with Bangladesh) of Sunderbans, the home of the Bengal Tiger. It is also the gateway to the magnificent mangrove forests of Sundarbans. Our Ashrama at Taki is a Branch Centre of the Ramakrishna Mission, Belur Math.
We run one Primary School and a High School where four hundred and six hundred fifty students are taught respectively. Besides the schools, our activities also center on a Hostel, where around 100 students can stay and pursue their schooling. These students come mainly from the most backward and underprivileged sections of the Sundarban area.
Our education is not limited inside the four walls of our Ashrama Campus only; It spreads throughout the whole area of Sundarban where 32(thirty-two) non-formal school are running. In the evening part of the day, we conduct classes on moral and ethical subjects to instill Swami Vivekananda’s “Man making and character building” ideas in the minds of the local youths.
During Aila in 2009, nature has squeezed everything, the poor villagers possessed. After Aila, the cultivation lands have become barren due to deposition of salted silt. Besides education, we conduct welfare activities to support the poor, the needy and the extremely downtrodden people of Sundarbans.
